Clinical Pharmacology II Module

  • Updated on Thursday 30th of October 2025

Module Overview

This module provides foundational and advanced knowledge in clinical pharmacology tailored for nursing and medical students. It aims to equip learners with the essential understanding of pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, drug classifications, mechanisms of action, therapeutic uses, adverse effects, and evidence-based drug administration principles. Emphasis is placed on safe, ethical, and effective medication use across different patient populations in both acute and community healthcare settings. Learners will develop skills for interpreting pharmacological data and integrating pharmacotherapeutics into holistic patient care.

Module Objectives

By the end of this module, the learner should be able to:

  1. Explain the principles of pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics.
  2. Classify medications based on body systems, mechanism of action, and chemical structure.
  3. Identify indications, contraindications, and side effects of major drug classes.
  4. Apply principles of safe medication administration across various routes and patient groups.
  5. Recognize and manage adverse drug reactions and interactions.
  6. Integrate pharmacological knowledge into patient care planning and health promotion.
  7. Demonstrate understanding of evidence-based guidelines for drug use, including antimicrobial stewardship.
