Module Overview

Upon completion of this course, you should be able to: 

• Complete the initial health assessment and examination of the newborn baby

• Understand how the normal parameters of well-being in the newborn are assessed and the features of normal neonatal behaviour and reflexes

• Describe the common but generally benign conditions that may present in the neonate, such as those affecting the skin, minor birth trauma, physiological jaundice

• Outline the common conditions that may adversely affect the health of the newborn.
